Three Indian Peacekeepers have been honoured posthumously with the prestigious UN medal.

They are among the 129 police, military and civilian personnel who have been honoured with the Dag Hammarskjold Medal for their sacrifice and courage in the line of duty.
The 3 Indian Peacekeepers are- Mulchand Yadav, Ivan Michael Picardo, Corporal Yuvraj Singh.

Their names are:

  • Corporal Yuvraj Singh: The Indian peacekeeper had served with the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS).
  • Ivan Michael Picardo: The civilian peacekeeper had also served with the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS).
  • Mulchand Yadav: The civilian peacekeeper had worked with the UN Assistance Mission in Iraq (UNAMI).
They were honoured posthumously with the Dag Hammarskjold Medal during a somber virtual ceremony held to commemorate the occasion of the International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers.
India is the fifth-largest contributor of uniformed personnel to UN peacekeeping with more than 5,500 military and police serving in peace operations in Abyei, Cyprus, Congo, Lebanon, the Middle East, Somalia, South Sudan and Western Sahara, according to the UN.
