President of Syria 2021 : Bashar al-Assad re-elected as the President

Bashar al-Assad has been re-elected as the President of Syria for the 4th term with 95.1% votes.

He has been the 19th President of Syria, since 17 July 2000.

The Presidential elections in Syria were held on May 26, 2021, which were termed by the opposition and western nations as a farce.

Head of parliament Hammouda Sabbagh announced the results at a news conference on Thursday

Voter turnout was about 78 percent, with more than 14 million Syrians taking part.

Marei got 3.3 percent of the vote, while Salloum received 1.5 percent, Sabbagh said.

The election was held in government controlled areas of the country and in some Syrian embassies overseas.

He succeeded his late father, Hafez al – Assad, was the President of Syria before him, serving from 1971 to 2000.

He entered the military academy, taking charge of the Syrian military presence in Lebanon in 1998.
