IPL 2021 : BCCI moves IPL to UAE
Two minute reads :
The Board of Control for Cricket in India ( BCCI ) has decided to move the Indian Premier League 2021 to UAE.
The announcement was made by BCCI chairman Rajeev Sukla on 29 May 2021.
The IPL matches was expected to resume tentatively on September 18 Or 19, 2021.
The league was suspended indefinitely in early May after many players tested positive for Covid-19.
The decision, on resuming the league that was earlier suspended, was taken at a BCCI Special General Meeting (SGM) on Saturday, where members unanimously agreed to resume IPL 2021.
Why IPL 2021 is moved to UAE?
- One of the biggest reasons for conducting the tournament in the UAE is that it can be kept to three grounds — Sharjah, Dubai and Abu Dhabi — and there is no air travel.
- “Look six venues for IPL was always a dangerous proposition when they successfully managed with three during the last edition,” the source said.
The World Cup is also due to be held in India from October but it is also at risk from the pandemic. The tournament is due to be discussed by the ICC next Tuesday.
About 160,000 people have died since April 1 in a devastating wave that has seen hospitals overwhelmed.
