Global Cybersecurity Index 2020 rankings : U.S. ranks top, India jumps to number 10 in index

The U.S top the chart followed by UK and Saudi Arabia tied on the second position, while Estonia was ranked third in Global Cybersecurity Index 2020 by ITU.
  • U.S ranks 1st followed by UK
  • Saudi Arabia at 2nd
  • Estonia ranks 3rd
  • South Korea, Singapore and Spain ranks 4th
  • Russia, UAE and Malaysia spots 5th
  • Interestingly, neighbours China and Pakistan were ranked at 33 and 79, respectively.

India rank, in GCI 2020 :

  • India’s overall score was 97.49.
  • India’s 10th position, is a marked improvement from the index’s earlier edition released in 2018, when it was ranked on the 47th spot.
  • It moves up 37 places to rank as the 10th best country in the world on key cyber safety parameters.
  • In the Asia-Pacific region India secured the 4th spot.

GCI and it’s aim :

  • Global Cybersecurity Index (GCI) is a trusted reference that measures the commitment of countries to cybersecurity at a global level.
  • It aims to raise awareness from cybercrime and different dimensions of the issue.

Countries, were measured here along with five pillars :

  • (i) Legal Measures
  • (ii) Technical Measures
  • (iii) Organizational Measures
  • (iv) Capacity Development
  • (v) Cooperation – and then aggregated into an overall score
The countries were asked 82 questions where 20 indicators were measured.
The ITU Global Cybersecurity Agenda (GCA)​ ​provides the general foundation and framework for the initiative.
