The Second Gender Samvaad Event was chaired by Minstry of Rural Development’s Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana National Rural Livelihoods Mission ( DAY – NRLM ) on July 2021.
India’s Largest Livelihoods programme is an attempt to create a common platform generating greater awareness on NRLM’s interventions.
  • The bi-monthly platform brought together over 1,400 participants including senior MoRD and state government officials, practitioners, gender experts, civil society actors, and members of SHGs.

Aim :

  • The main aim of this event is, on highlighting best practices and the lessons learnt in implementing gender responsive interventions.
  • It also aims to promote the need to focus on gender issues and helps to understand gender equality.

Samvaad will provide states with opportunities to:

  • Understand best practices/initiatives that other states have been undertaking to improve women’s agency.
  • Understand gender interventions globally.
  • Engage with experts and other colleagues on suggestions regarding how to handle issues/implementation barriers.
  • Contribute to creation of a ‘gender repository’.
  • Build advocacy around the need to focus on gender issues.

  • Deendayal Antayodaya Yojana-National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM) holds great promise for advancing women’s socio-economic empowerment.
  • The DAY-NRLM launched a gender operational strategy in 2016 to mainstream gender issues.
  • This was achieved through training and capacity building of staff.
  • Also, institutional platforms were established so that women could approach them for their grievances.
  • With over 60 million women mobilised to be part of one of India’s largest livelihoods programme.
